Ankur Warikoo belongs to the Kashmiri Pandit family. His family was displaced during the 1989 – 90 riots. Ankur completed his primary and higher secondary education at Don Bosco School, New Delhi. He wanted to take admission to IITs but couldn’t qualify.
Later, he joined the Hindu College of Delhi University and completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics. During this time, Ankur chose to take Physics tuition for students and also took a part-time job working as a market research analyst.

After working at Kearney for 3 years, he quit consulting to join the startup full-time, and over the next couple of years, he worked on many websites across automobiles, education, and finance niches. The most successful among them all was CarDekho Gaadi Store, which got acquired by Goibibo. In the year 2015, Ankur bought Groupon India Business and renamed it Nearbuy.com.
NearBuy.com was backed by Sequoia Capital. It is now handled by Ankur’s partners Snehesh Mitra and Ravi Shankar. In 2016, Ankur started another online content creation business under the brand name Warikoo.
