Cyrus completed his education at Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) and later earned a Ph.D. from Pune University. Married to Villoo Poonawalla, he dedicated himself to the family’s business, the Poonawalla Group.

Career and Entrepreneurial Ventures: Cyrus founded the Serum Institute of India (SII) in 1966, initially focusing on producing anti-tetanus and anti-snake venom sera. Recognizing the potential of horse serum for vaccines, he established the venture by selling horses from Poonawalla Stud Farms. SII, under his leadership, became a global leader in vaccine manufacturing, providing affordable vaccines to over 100 countries. His son, Adar Poonawalla, serves as the CEO at Serum.
